Since I am hopelessly far behind, I am going to try to catch up as much as I can as fast as I can. For most of January, there have been pretty decent swells (by socal standards) near Los Angeles. Two weekends ago, I knew I didn't want to surf gross water after being spoiled at home. I drove up north knowing there would be some kind of swell and was definitely rewarded. I surfed 1/4mi+ long rights over and over again. The limiting factor was how many times I could jump out of the water and run back up to paddle out again. There were some fun peaks that made the drive more than worth it. Afterward, I checked out Patagonia to see if they had any acceptable all-use pants (=church, climbing, traveling to places where you should wear more conservative clothes, and walking lots of miles through the desert with bodyboard on my back in the summer). Unfortunately, there wasn't anything up to my ridiculous standards. I also made my regular stop by Nature's Grill for food on the way back down south. Yay clean air and clean water.
The next day, Josh and I went to Stoney Point to get some climbing in. First, we explored another bouldering area in Chatsworth. It was pretty overgrown though so after enjoying new scenery we drove over to our more well known spot. I pretty much always need to eat so we stopped at a new smoothie spot and I got to try boba for the first time (its like huge tapiocas that go in smoothies). Here's Josh checking out the lesser known area:
The view of the city was pretty nice too, mostly because the city was far away.
At Stoney Point, we worked on a couple of V3s and a V1 neither of us could figure out. It was just one of those kinds of weird beta problems I guess. We were just out there to have fun though so we didn't mind. Our favorite problem of the afternoon was a cool double arete that Josh was much more successful on than I was (not a surprise).
I had issues doing more than one move at a time, but if I worked it longer I could probably send (well, maybe minus the topout).
We rushed back to LA as fast as we could because I needed to go to church. Made it to Lake Ave on time and had a fun dinner afterward with some church friends. This is my "I'm hungry so its time to go" look (so flattering, I know):
Thank you so much Josh for the photo.
